It's a Great Time to Buy a Diamond! |
It's a great time to buy a Diamond! No...not that kind of Diamond, the flying kind. Diamond Aircraft announced its own economic stimulus package with its "Fly For Free" program. Check it out:

“Fly for Free” in a new Diamond DA40 – Diamond's Economic Stimulus Package
While turbulent markets may make today seem like the wrong time to buy an airplane – there has never been a better time to buy a Diamond DA40 XLS or DA40 CS. This is especially true now with this new offer from Diamond Aircraft and Diamond dealers, good through year-end 2008.
With one of the industry’s best safety records, low insurance rates, low long-term interest rates, affordable maintenance and a low fuel burn, the DA40 is not only fun to fly, but also appealing to the fiscally-responsible traveler. Now, a great deal is even better.
By buying and taking delivery of a new DA40 between now and December 31, 2008, customers receive free maintenance, free insurance, free fuel and free flight training, for the first year of operation – a $13,250 value.
- Free maintenance includes all scheduled maintenance – parts and labor – for one year or 125 hours, whichever comes first: a $2,750 value.
- Free insurance credit worth up to $3,500 – which will cover most private, instrument-rated pilots in a DA40 XLS.
- Free fuel card worth $5,000, which should cover the first 100 hours of flying at $5 per gallon and the DA40's low 10 gph fuel burn.
- Free flight training via a $2,000 training credit, which customers can use for transition training or toward any rating – private or more advanced, in their new airplane.
Combine this with the United States government’s special bonus depreciation tax incentive program that allows new owners to write off up to $300,000 of the purchase price, and it is likely the best deal you will make this year.
This offer expires December 31, 2008 and is limited to new U.S. or Canadian-registered DA40 aircraft in current inventory at Diamond distributors.

A New Era For Light Sport Aircraft |
With today’s rising fuel costs flying as a recreational pilot is becoming more and more expensive. More than ever Light Sport Aircraft are providing pilots with an affordable solution to this cost barrier. There are various LSA available on the market today, some built ready to fly while others are available as quick building pre-fabricated kits.
The affordability of LSA begins with lower fuel costs. On average their cruising fuel consumption ranges from 4 to 6 gallons per hour compared to conventional light aircraft beginning at 6 gallons per hour and greater. Many LSA engines are even certified to burn automotive gas, saving you even more money compared to AVGAS burning engines. Training to become a certified aircraft sport pilot by the FAA requires a minimum of only 20 hours, the minimum hours required, to become a private pilot. These savings in pilot training provides an affordable alternative for new and aspiring recreational pilots. Finally, a sport pilot can also save money on maintenance costs, as the pilot them self can complete maintenance on the aircraft; however this depends on how the aircraft is registered.
Not only do LSA provide value, they also provide performance. These aircraft are being built utilizing modern construction processes, such as composite construction. These construction processes allow for lighter aircraft therefore increasing power to weight ratios, as well as reducing profile drag and increasing cruise speeds, reaching 120 knots. These aircraft are also beginning to use modern glass cockpit avionics systems, such as the Garmin G300.
The new era of Light Sport Aircraft is upon us, providing a fun and affordable solution for the recreational pilot.

Flightcom Denali ANR Headset Review |
If you are on the market for a great ANR headset that is light weight and very comfortable you may want to check out Flightcom’s Denali ANR headset. The Denali is an active noise reduction headset (ANR) that electronically creates noise cancelling frequencies to reduce the noisy environment of an aircraft.
The first thing you will notice about the Denali is its simple construction, replacing classic metal frame construction of other headsets with rugged and attractive plastic. This headset is noticeably lighter than most headsets and putting it on you will find that it is very comfortable, with ear sealing leather ear seals. The ear seals keep a lot of noise out even while wearing your sun glasses. The flexible mic boom is also very practical and stays where you place it. This headset is comfortable for those long flights as well; so far we have flown up to 8 consecutive hours with no pressure points or problems.
The noise reduction component is easily activated with a simple on/off switch. The ANR uses a 9 volt battery that lasts a few flights of significant duration; we suggest buying a couple of NiMH rechargeable batteries which will save you some dollars in the long run and also provide longer battery life at higher battery capacities. With ANR turned off the headset continues to provide good noise protection, however the ANR really makes a flight more enjoyable.
So far the reliability of the Flightcom Denali has been great; we have flown with the headset for the past 2 years with absolutely no problems. Flightcom also provides a reassuring 3 year warranty with a 30-day try-out program.
The Flightcom Delali is a great headset offering high value and performance, with a street price just under $600 US. The icing on the cake for the Denali is that it comes with a very handy carrying case with side compartments, doubling as a great little flight bag. If you are tired of bulky green headsets we suggest you check out the Flightcom Denali.
